Why pressure resistance, vibration durability and installation compatibility matter in mining cooling applications
A recent SINRUI project involved 10 replacement cooling units for an overseas mining customer in Chile, covering part numbers 3222331321, 3222331322 and 3222331379. Rather than treating all three components simply as “radiators,” the project is better understood as a drill-rig cooling package: hydraulic cooling, compressor cooling and engine-coolant heat rejection each place different demands on the heat exchanger.
Public parts cross-references commonly associate these part numbers with Atlas Copco D65, L7 and L8 MK2 drill-rig families. Final compatibility should always be confirmed against the machine serial number, parts book, connection layout and operating data before supply.
Part Number | Cooling Function | Common Drill-Rig References |
3222331321 | Hydraulic cooler | D65 / L7 / L8 MK2 |
3222331322 | Compressor cooler | D65 / L7 / L8 MK2 |
3222331379 | Engine radiator | D65 / L7-40 / L8-30 (MK2) |

Mining drill rigs operate under changing hydraulic loads, repeated mechanical shock, high vibration and restricted installation space. The cooling core therefore needs to combine heat-transfer performance with structural strength. In these applications, an aluminum bar-and-plate construction can be a strong fit because the core is built as a compact welded assembly rather than relying on thin individual tubes and mechanically delicate joints.

Hydraulic and compressor circuits can experience frequent pressure changes during drilling and other high-load operating cycles. A bar-and-plate core uses aluminum separator plates, fins and side bars brazed into an integrated structure. This gives the heat exchanger a robust pressure-bearing path and helps reduce the risk of leakage or core deformation when the system sees repeated pressure pulses.
Continuous drilling and rock-breaking generate high-frequency vibration that can accelerate fatigue around joints and unsupported sections. The compact bar-and-plate structure distributes mechanical load across the core and reduces reliance on isolated tube-to-header joints. For mobile mining equipment, this structural rigidity can support better resistance to fatigue-related leakage.
A drill rig cooler must reject heat while the engine, compressor and hydraulic systems are working near sustained load. Fin geometry and internal passage design should therefore be selected together with the required airflow and allowable pressure drop. For high-ambient projects, the cooler should be verified at the actual design temperature rather than selected only from nominal dimensions.
Space around drill-rig engines, compressor packages and hydraulic systems is limited. Replacement units therefore need to match overall dimensions, connection positions, mounting points and service clearances. A direct-fit design can reduce unnecessary field modification and make replacement work more predictable for the maintenance team.

In mining applications, cooler performance is not defined by heat transfer alone. Pressure variation, vibration, dust loading, ambient temperature and limited maintenance windows all affect long-term reliability. A replacement part that matches the external envelope but ignores the actual duty can still become a weak point in the machine.
For the Chile project, the practical objective was straightforward: supply replacement cooling components that fit the existing drill-rig package and provide a structure better suited to heavy-duty operating conditions. The project did not require a change in the customer’s maintenance strategy; it required the replacement cooler to be engineered around the machine and the application.
For fleet managers, this shifts the buying question from “Does it fit?” to “Will it handle the pressure, vibration, airflow and ambient conditions of this rig?” That is a more useful basis for comparing replacement cooling options and managing downtime risk.
A reliable replacement starts with the right technical information. For Atlas Copco drill-rig cooler enquiries, the most useful starting data includes:
· Original part number and drill-rig model
· Machine serial number or parts-book reference, if available
· Cooling medium (engine coolant, hydraulic oil, charge air/compressor circuit, etc.)
· Existing cooler overall dimensions and connection sizes/positions
· Maximum ambient temperature
· Flow rate, inlet/outlet temperatures and allowable pressure drop, if available
· Photos of the existing unit, mounting points and surrounding installation space
· Required quantity and destination
Compatibility note: Atlas Copco part numbers are used for identification and cross-reference only. Final fitment should be confirmed from the machine serial number, original parts information and drawing dimensions before production. |
SINRUI supports replacement and customized cooling solutions for heavy-duty mining equipment, including aluminum bar-and-plate hydraulic coolers, compressor coolers, intercoolers and engine radiators. Projects can be reviewed from an original part number, drawing, sample, photos or field measurements.
